• Purpose and Goals
1 John 4:19: We love because He first
loved us.
Gal. 5: 13-14: 13You, my brothers, were called to be free.
But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature;
rather, serve one another in love. 14The entire law is
summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as
yourself.¡±
Most people believe that the first message a person needs to
hear in order to accept Christ as their personal Savior is
the message of the Gospel. And indeed, that is true. But
once a person has accepted Christ into their hearts, many
people are under the impression that they somehow have
¡°graduated¡± past the gospel, and have moved on to more
¡°spiritual forms of discipline¡±. But we believe that this is
simply not true. Instead of graduating past the gospel, we
use our spiritual disciples to go deeper into the gospel, so
that we can experience Christ more fully. And in the end, we
find that the main force that drives us is not our desire to
be ¡°good people¡± or to be ¡°righteous Christians¡± but to love
God with all our hearts, all our minds, all our soul, and
all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. In
fully understanding this concept of loving God and loving
others, our desire to do good and live righteously will come
as a natural expression of that love, and be translated into
our everyday lives.
Through the high school ministry, the students will
1. Know that they love God because He first loved them. (1
John 4:19)
2. Understand that because they are a child of God they will
inherit His kingdom, not earn it on their own merit. (Gal.
4: 7)
3. Learn both the importance and unimportance of the Law
(i.e. Spiritual disciplines) and how it applies to their
everyday lives. (Gal. 3:24-26)
4. Be able to inwardly and outwardly live out their love for
God and love for others by remembering God¡¯s mercy in their
lives and learning to serve each other by giving up
themselves in that love. (Rom. 12:1-2)
5. Be equipped to handle everyday situations as Christ would
do. (What does Jesus say about drugs? Alcohol? Sex?
Mistreating others? And how would Jesus handle these kinds
of situations?) (1 Cor. 10:13)
